I am trying to have the Highway Traffic Act changed in the Province of Nova Scotia Canada. I am looking to have them change it so that Volunteer Firefighters can use a Green Light when responding in their Pov. What I am looking for is Fire Chiefs that have Lights in their Department to let me e-mail them a paper with 12 questions for them to answer. The questions are about miss use, Dept policy for miss use, if they run a course be the Firefighter can use the light, etc....
This information could help me out with getting the Lights for our Volunteers...
Please e-mail me and let me know if you would fill one out for me. Anyone from the States or Cananda.
Thanks George for looking but I stay away from Firehouse with this subject. You can't just ask for help in the forum, they give everything and you have no control over who posts and they say what they want...
Here in Humphreys County Tennessee, we can run a light bar on povs but it cant be anylonger that 24 ins.We use red here and cops are blue.We also can use sirens on povs but depending on the call we we may not use them while going to the hall.
Hey Art I am a battalion chief for hcvfd in Texas. Our dept ran pov lights and sirens, about 8 years ago, and many abused the privelege, so the judge banded them. In the last two years we were able to reinstate the pov lights and sirens, but for chief officers only. It has worked out the best for us when calls come out. But for our area we run red and white mixed in lights only. On fire scenes it has been real easy for anybody to spot the fire officers when we call for mutual aid on the big running fires. Hope this helps ya.

Here In Bozrah Connecticut, we use blue lights. But before we can use the lights, we have to fill out a permit allowing us to use it. If miss used, the firefighter loses his light privledges and is suspended until further notice.
In Iowa the firefighters have a blue light and EMS personnel have white lights. If we are both we can have a combination of the two. We have a permit through the state and the departments help regulate.
