painting phenix tl-2

Do I have to do anything special to paint a TL-2 phenix leather? or can i do it like a cairns and just sand it down and apply numerous coats (in a nut shell)?

I would email Phenix to see since they are not painted the same way. I believe that the color is soaked into the leather rather then painted on?

It's your lid, get creative. I'd just clean, sand, prime, and paint.
