I was just recently promoted to Lieutenant and I had to send my beloved Sam Houston back to Cairns for a nice coat of red paint. There is some cracking on the right side of the helmet, but not anything overly noticible. Will Cairns still repaint the helmet with this cracking going on? And will they do anything about it? Thanks.

I told them that up front, they pretty much said that it would depend on the severity of the cracks. There's no wire exposed and the stitching is still in tact. Some of the rosin however has been leaking out of the stitching from a few hot training fires. Which is interesting because my other Houston from 2006 hasn't had such a problem.
How much does Cairns charge to repaint (or in my case stain back to natural leather) an N6A? I have never thought of this and I would like it done.
If the cracks are in the paint it should be no problem. When I repaint helmets I find most of the cracks are in the paint. If its in the leather it can be repaired but I'm sure they will charge more.
To be honest with you, I do all of my own repairs. Try a thing called PC 7, it's like bondo. You put it on where there is a crack, wait for it to dry, sand it and then paint your helmet again. I've been repairing helmets for about 8 years now and it holds really well to heat( unlike bondo ).
