What did you use to sand it down and do you have any after pics?
I used 220 grit sandpaper. And yes I have a after picture Ill post up.

And being my own worst critic I thought the red was too glossy and sent it in to cairns to be painted to their specs.
I think it turned out great and really like the color of it. What brand paint did you use? I know 1 Shot paint has a few different shade of reds you could have used.
I actually used high heat acrylic enamel primer spray paint and a red high heat acrylic enamel paint.
Oh ok. Looks great for a spray paint job.
I just read this post and think your helmet looks great. But like you I bought a black Sam Houston because of the price and needed to paint it yellow. I used hight heat engine block paint primer. It looked really good after I thought smooth and glossy. But didn't take long after a few fires it cracked and chipped like crazy. A guy at my house has a factory job. The oil based sherwin Williams paint and it doesn't chip nearly ad bad. I just repaint mine again and this time I did a total strip and used the right type Of paint. I'm sure it doesn't matter but maybe it'll last a bit longer.
