LMAO, it is good for all of us to know we are not alone here, been there myself. Ever start looking in your mirrors because you hear sirens? You have your radio on, scanning and no one has been called out and you see no one and there is nothing going on. For me that is the time to hit the water and relax awhile.

What's worse is hearing sirens and starting to pull over for them, and then realizing it's the new ringtone you downloaded on your phone! Boy was my face red.

i can beat that. i'm home sleeping and my pager is in the living room, and my scanner is on full blast on my stand stand locked onto the dispatch channel. all of a sudden i hear the tones drop and hear a dispatch go out. i got dressed ran out to my car and drove to the firehouse with the blues going. i arrive i open up the bay, put my gear on, start the engine and grab a portable. i hear the chief call on scene and the ladder call in service. after sitting on the apron geared up with the engine running for 5 minutes i walk to my car and look at my pager to see if the light was on... oops no light. it was a district call but not mine for a CO alarm. let's just say thank god the police's desk sergeant that night knew me or else i would've had a freshly torn sack.

one night when i was on duty at the station back in Va, right around dinner time over the station pa system (which was always set to our primary dispatch channel) we hear " company 6 company 9 respond to XXX McCorkle dr for a reported structure fire. so both engine crews and the truck crew rush out to the bays, hopped in the truck and out the doors we were (we were vol but staffed out station 24/7 with 2 duty crews during the day and 3 at night). get on the radio "ECC engine 6 truck 9 responding, can you place companies 7,4 and company 12 on this assignment with 12 as RIT" next thing you know dispatch comes over the air, be advised we didnt dispatch you, but we did copy, would you like a call generated. turns out some dept in the Raleigh, NC area had adjusted or boosted there singnal and with out repeater on thop of the Mt, we were picking up "skip" from them. they also had a company 6 and 9 as well as a McCorkle Dr. we didnt find out untill we were 2 mins out from the scene and truck 9 and BC 2 were giving a size up and assignments, capt looked back as saw truck 9 behind us and said WTF and called dispatch. thats when we found out the issue and felt really dumb

when they used smoke signals to tone out a call...
and smoke showing had a different meaning...

My neighboring town used the phone tree system AND the giant siren on top of their fire station still in the 90's... yes, the 1990's...

and funny as they started getting radios and pagers... the old system still worked better since mountains screwed up the radio / pager reception and you would hear

"Ple a resp - --- - 78 -- old n road ---- -- fire --- - -- ---, over"

So you would still have to call on the phone, or just respond to the station and HOPE someone got the full details of the page...

yep ! had the same thing happen before. LOL. volunteer dept, I responded all the way to the station, blue light a-flashin', thought at first that there had been a recall, and I didnt hear it. I was the only one at the station. so I checked the sign in book, WTH? no one signed in. yep. all a dream, tones and all.

Simlar type of thing, but early last year I think, my wife and I who serve on the same Department had both been working an overnight shift and got home at the same time for once. We got into bed and must have fell asleep in a minute. The pager starts going off, and I jump up, I had been in bed 25 minutes, I look across, and my wife is getting her fireboot socks on so I rush downstairs to start the truck, she waves at me through the window to go. I never saw her again on that house fire, but thats not unusual. As I walk back into the house, covered in dirt and soot after overhaul, I walk upstairs and there half lying on the bed with one sock on is my wife, she jumps up and stares at me, "I told you I would met you at the station" she says... That was 7 hours ago hunny................
