Is your spouse also in emergency services? Do you find it creates stress in your relationship or do you find that it helps your relationship by being with someone that can relate to what we/you go through at work.
My hubby is a police officer...detective, and I have always found that the fact that both of us work in emergency services is great...we always have each other to talk to about our day. It helps relieve our work related stress and we are both a great support for each other.
What about everyone else?....how does it work for you?
Yes. Both of us are EMTs and FFs. She's better at it than I am. However, that aside, it's immensely helpfull to have somebody you can trust implicitly to talk to about some of the really stressfull runs.
The boyfriend and myself are both Firefighter and EMT's. I find that the two of us both understand what the other one does, not to mention he's a great teacher and supports me in everything I do : )
I know... mid activity... all I would be envisioning is the amputated arm from the last call laying on the bench next to the cot... or the last 45 times some one vomited all over that exact spot... or the guts hanging out call... or... or... or... or... or... or... tell Katie I said GROSS !!!
BLEACH OR NOT - GROSS !!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel the same way about Grey's Anatomy and the desire to hook up all over the hospital - YUK YUK YUK !!!
see now Laura - Ralph brags about lying to his wife (ok, misleading her) (ok, protecting her) about what he really does at work... do she has to come to her own conclusions, I guess
Wife and I are both in the dept.I actually met her a few(or more)years ago when she was a capt.at a MA dept. and I was capt. in our dept.Sometimes it great and other times it's not so terrific. She has also worked as a 911 dispatcher and a PD dispatcher in addition to the FD stuff. She is also the EMT of the family and I tend to gravitate more toward suppression/wildland.Keeps life interesting!:)
hubby and I are both in the field. we actually met 14 yrs ago in EMT class. best friends ever since. we were never on the same department, though. so half of our off duty time was spent swapping stories of what went on, LOL.
