OH for the days when i had lights. during my time (70's & 80's) we were constantly changing our blue lights around and the cops were bugging us about it, One PD decided to go with blue and red, we went ape under "da law is da law an only da vollies gets ta uses da blue lights-PERIOD!" to wit they responded with "we're law enforcement and can do whatever we want" so we left it alone and for a while people were call them the "vollie police?"...back in my time the law was ONE BLUE LIGHT of 25cp, so when halogen bulbs came out the cops were busting balls for a while. my plan for dealing with the cops on that subject would be, if he tags me for having a halogen bulb i would just tell him it was dialed back to 25cp. if he called my bluff and said "i cant prove that my halogen bulb is only putting out 25cp i was gonna say..."how do you know if it is or is not...do you carry a light-watt measuring device on your police car? if not you cant prove that it IS"...on a humerous note, i once got busted for having a mirror system (whalen responder circa 1980) by one of our chiefs who said that the law says one blue light...i said it "IS" one blue light, he says but you see three flashes so its three lights. i said the law dosent say anything about mirrors...go figure?... by the way, if you want to go to vollie light heaven, move to OHIO. Vollies there have LIGHTS AND SIRENS!!! on my first visit out there, i had to get my own AED. to see a crew of vollies comming to the firehouse with lights and sirens, i almost lost it. i dont go out there anymore without my own AED. in florida (where i live now) vollies get one red light and a lot of departments are taking them away from them (BS reasons) (sigh and wink)- i'm still an EMT and have lights on my vehicle so when i pull over to render assistance. good luck to all who love equiping your POV's with lights. LONG LIVE THE VOLUNTEERS!!!!! (besides-we're just goin to the firehouse....JEEZ!)
