I'm a firm believer in needing to regionalize to some extent in my area, we have three small volunteer co.s that cover a large area, we are already rely on each other for MA on just about any working structure, and use ea other for water shuttles. Our funding is very poor by our states standards, (all three budgets combined are less than many fire companies in the state ) I feel we can better serve the community and save money if we combined our buying power, for equipment, training, and Manpower. I also believe that when it comes to buying apparatus we culd improve and stop purchasing as many trucks , thus saving all taxpayers $$$. My company does more hi-way work thatn the other two,but we all cover good chunks of interstate. so maybe we can concentrate our apparatus more for that task, than for structural, One of the other co's has 2 new tankers and can bring 5000 gallons to a fire.(should we really buy our own new tanker, they're firehouse is only 6 miles away. And the third company needs a ladder to service their business district, and all three could benefit from that. I know it's advanced practicle thinking, possibly lower the tax burden on the public, and provide better service.
through the use of box alarms, and auto mutual aid we could create a strong fire dept out of one three good companies.
