To Our Brothers and Sisters of the Fire Service:
This letter is a call for help. As many of you know, Turlough Meehan, son
of Dennis Firefighter Phelium Meehan, is in a courageous battle for his
life. Diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia at 2 months old, Turlough, in
true Irish fashion, has met each challenge, refusing to give up.
Unfortunately, each victory has only lead to the next challenge and this
is why we are reaching out on his behalf. Turlough's next struggle is a
mountain he cannot climb alone. After a recent setback, Turlough's doctors
have decided that it is now critical that he receive a bone marrow
transplant. Regrettably, finding a bone marrow match is not an easy task
and a donor for Turlough is not readily available.
As firefighters, we are by nature men and women of action... we see the
need, we find the remedy, and we take action on those conclusions. The
need is obvious. The remedy is to locate a matched donor for Turlough.
Therefore, we are calling on anyone and everyone who reads this letter to
take action to help Turlough fight this battle. Children's Hospital has
volunteered their services to conduct a donor screening event on November
10th from 12-4pm at Dennis Fire Department Headquarters. This involves a
few minutes of your time and a cotton swab to the mouth. Detailed
information will be available at the screening. It is our hope that this
event will help find a match for Turlough and facilitate his triumph over
this latest challenge. On behalf of Phelium and Amanda Meehan, as well
as, our entire Dennis Fire Department family, we thank you in advance for
your assistance with this effort and ask for your continued prayers.
Sincerely,
Lt. Chris Guerreiro
