Athough there are regulations and rules for the garbage industry You will never know what is in the landfill. Not everyone follows every rule and having worked for a garbage collection company I will assure you that residential garbage is very dirty in regards to residents just throw evrything in a garbage bag and forget about the hazzards once it's in there.Which in turn goes to the landfill and gets covered. One day at work my guy that was on the back of the truck throwing garbage into the truck threw some bags in and he packed it and something in the bags exploded and covered him with some sort of acidy substance and he was getting burnt on his arms and legs and face that were not covered with clothes. The only thing I could do was grab him and throw him under the water jug and rinse him off and when that was empty i brought him up to a house and sprayed him with a garden hose. There was a patch of whatever it was on the road and it was bubbling up and smoking in a patch about 4 ft around.Just an example I'll use for letting people out there know that there could be some nasty stuff in garbage.
Now if by chance, and it does happen, to catch fire there is NO way of knowing what is on fire and what toxins it's putting off and to add to the dangers you have a mountain of garbage that is rotting releasing methane gas. This is not a really good scenario!
