Boston firefighters Paul Cahill, 55 of Engine Co. 30 and Warren J. Payne, 53 of Ladder Co. 25 were killed in the line of duty last night (8/29) while operating at the scene of a 4 alarm fire in the West Roxbury section of the city. 13 other firefighters were injured, 2 were initially listed in critical condition however they have been upgraded to serious condition. Both men were 25 year veterans of the Boston Fire Department.
The fire occurred in a Thai restaurant located in a block of stores on Centre St. Brother Payne and Brother Cahill were on the first due companies and initial reports are they were advancing a hoseline and became disoriented and/or trapped within a few minutes.
