Hi Dawn,
I don't see a problem in joining a company and participating in training.
To respond to calls you'd probably have to finish training for "Truppmann 1".
Speaking German and knowing the terminology for procedures and equipment would be mandatory.
Hi,
in my volunteer department we have a comrade with dual citizenship (American/German), so it shoudn't be a be a problem.
First thing i would do, is search for volunteer departments on the internet and contact them by email or visit them on their training sessions. Look what they are doing, if you liking it, speak to them and tell you want to join.
May be your firefighting education(training/apprenticeship) from the US is disavowed.
Sorry for my bad english.

Hi, as far as I know it's possible for every EU-citizen to join volunteer firebrigade and professional firefighters.
If you want to become a professional firefighter, you have to do several tests, like physical test, theory test(physics, math ,german language, maybe an english test), another condition is you must have a profession(carpenter, mechanician,.... or studied).
If you want an idea about the physical test, search on youtube for "Einstellungstest bei der Berufsfeuerwehr Hamburg" even it's in german you will see how it's work.
You need to be a member of German Firefighters to add comments!
