Hey Folks,

I guess I never said hello so here goes, "Hello." I am a retired Fire Fighter and through I did not serve in Florida, I currently live here. I am now a freelance photojournalist and fire photographer.

FYI to the group: (from my local newspaper) Julius Hallas (longboat key chief) will become the new FL state Fire marshal. I have known Chief Hallas for years. i have been a student of his when her was in training with Sarasota and i believe he will be an asset to our state. Congrats from Russ R

In work full time as a suppression Captain in So Cal. For this years wildland refresher training and since last year's Esperanza incident where five firefighters were killed protecting a structure, the USFS reportedly has come out and told folks that they are no longer going to do structure protection. Working for a county fire department, we are committed to providing structure protection. What was taught to us this year was the change of philosophy to use Foam and Go tactics. Is this how Florida is handling providing large scale structure protection? Anyone want to share wildland training stuff? Stay safe!
