Code Comparisions

Has anybody ever seen a code comparision comparing NFPA's #1 Fire Prevention Code and ICC's International Fire Code?  Looking to adopt something locally for the first time and our state uses the other ICC codes.  I thought it might make life easier using similar codes but want to make sure it does what we need as well.

Haven't seen a comparison. If your state is working with the ICC codes it is propbably best to stick with the IFC. If you adopt NFPA 1, you also adopt NFPA 5000 building code by reference. There are conflicts between the codes that you can correct by an amending ordinance. We use the 2009 IFC and the 2006 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and have to resolve many of the same conflicts by amendments.

This is not nessecarily the case. In Vermont we use NFPA 1, NFPA 101 however we use the IBC when it comes to new construction. We have amended the reference Items in NFPA 1 to use IBC. We have amended the IBC to use NFPA 101 for the means of egress and fire suppression/ detection aspects in new construction. If there is a conflict between the IBC and Life Safety Code, then the Life Safety Code trumps all.
