FASNY is pleased to announce the following seminar schedule for the 2008 FASNY Annual Convention in Rochester, NY
Wednesday Sessions, August 20, 2008:
• 1:00-2:30 pm: FORUM 1: “Fire Service Thermal Imagers; What You Should Know Today and Expect Tomorrow” Robert Athanas, President and Senior Instructor of SAFE-IR, Inc, a thermal imaging training and consulting group that teaches thermal imaging application to firefighters throughout the world. Enhance your knowledge of thermal imaging with this interactive basic explanation of how and why thermal imagers work, the technologies used, and why they are an important tool in all phases of firefighting when used properly.
• 3:00 – 4:30 pm: FORUM 2: “Fire Service Leadership” Paul Hashagen and Bruce Newberry (FDNY, retired) will discuss the challenges, difficulties and duties of leadership in the fire service.
• 5:00 pm -7:00 pm: FORUM 3: “Recruitment and Retention: Are The Volunteer Emergency Services Doomed?” William F. Jenaway, Executive Vice President of VFIS. Recruitment and Retention has become a major concern of the volunteer emergency response community in America. The numbers tell the story. Only a decade ago, there were over one million volunteer fire fighters. These numbers have dropped to just 800,000 and the bleeding continues. Join Dr. Jenaway as he addresses the major R & R issues: Do you have enough members? Are they the right members? Do you have jobs that need to be done, and no one on the staff that can do them? Are you losing more people than you have joining each year?
