P – Pilot Offerings

The United States Fire Administration (USFA), Department of Homeland Security, is conducting pilot classes at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland for three of its newly revised 2-day courses:

1. A two day course: P-730, Health and Safety Officer
2. A two day course: P-729, Incident Safety Officer
3. A two day course: P-163, NIMS – Incident Command System for Emergency Medical Services.

NFA will be delivering a special pilot offering of these courses -- P-730 (HSO), P-729 (ISO) and P-163 (NIMS-ICS for EMS) -- back-to-back over 6 days. They are scheduled for delivery November 30 – December 5, 2008, with students to arrive Saturday November 29 and depart Saturday, December 6, 2008. Student must attend all three offerings during the 6-day delivery.

Student Selection Criteria: Individuals who have department-level health and safety responsibilities. Responsibilities can range from first responder to field operations chief. Persons attending these courses should have a working knowledge of the ICS, as taught by NFA, building construction principles, OSHA requirements and recommendations, hazardous materials management, applicable NFPA guidelines, and Federal regulations.

Length: 6 days
Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete pre-requisite courses, ICS-100 and ICS-200 or equivalent, prior to being accepted for this course. Comments: These 3 two-day classes will be piloted back-to-back to the same attendees.

Applicants should not make plans to attend the pilot course until notified in writing by the Admissions Office.

Stipends for eligible students are available for attendance for this pilot course. Attendance at the pilot course does not prevent an eligible student from obtaining another stipend within the same fiscal year.
