The "trend" is already beginning to become self evident. Fire losses, specifically arson will begin to edge upward in the next cycle. In many parts of the country, arson or "suspicious" related vehicle fires are on the rise due in part to escalating gasoline prices and the inability to off load mileage deficient cars and SUV’s. With the housing foreclosure rates spiraling, the economic downturn…the resulting impact on the fire services in terms of increasing call volumes and fires may be obvious. It’ll impact different regions of the country at different times and the affects may also be diverse. We’ll wait and see……..We do need to be especially vigilant and watch out for the types of residential and structure fire traps and fast moving fires due to arson related intents as we respond and operate. The tenant’s and owner’s desires for use to “save” their property, MAY not align with our intent; they very well may be looking to get rid of the financial burden. WE need to stay safe and keep a keen eye out-and be conservative in out IAP’s and posture.
