11 firefighters died while they were engaged in training activities.

I fully understand that accidents happen, and unforeseen circumstances do not allow a totally safe environment. That being said, I feel that we should work towards decreasing this number. Our men and women, placed in our control, counting of us to ensure safeguards are in place, trust us to ensure that we do everything we can to provide the only somewhat safe environment we can in this line of work.
I have witnessed on more than one occasion where Chiefs have failed their troops by not stopping an unsafe training environment in an attempt to make things as close as possible to the real thing.
I know the motto; “The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle”. But with all the assets available to us today, how much is enough?
