FYI!! Another "Free" training class and we all know how free training classes go in our county, but I'll put this out there anyway. The final, "scheduled" NIMS 400 class by the EMA, will be Sat. Dec. 12 and Sun. Dec. 13th at the EMA Office in Lisbon. Classes run from 8-4 and lunch is on your own. Anyone needing the 400 class should call the EMA at 300-424-9725 and let them you are coming. Like I said this is the last 400 class that has been scheduled for our county. If you need it, better take this opportunity! Thanks for listening. Stay Safe!!
Nothing definitely scheduled at this time, possibly towards next fall, unless there is enough interest (confirmed 10-12 students) we can schedule something sooner. I know Max wanted the class but he is in the 240 class. So if we can spur some more interest or should I say "needs" that's about all we can do for now. New NIMS compliance regs may soon bite some departments in the ass when it comes to federal funding,
The prerequisite is they would all have to have, 100, 200, 700, 800, & 300; still have enough? Next question would be to get the ok for Columbiana County to do a class in Mahoning, I would just need to ask their EMA. Will check and get back
Got a reply back from Mahoning County, they have no problem with use sponsoring a 400 class. We just need to look at some dates and a confirmed committment.
I know that I want/need the 300 and 400. So I would be in and I would like to think that I could round up some "trustful" perry guys to sign up AND SHOW UP
In the time I spent in the Carroll Co. association(about 8 to 10 years ago) there was never a time that I can recall that there wasn't enough help in planning or seeing something through. From spending endless hours counting out pencils and coloring books for each school in the county (trust me it wasn't fun), to planning the county fire school, to manning a first aid station at the Algonquin Mill festival, people were always willing to jump in and help. Even though some departments and people had their differences, they always put them aside and came together when it came to accomplishing something for the good of the association. I don't know how they are now but this county could have learned something from them 8-10 years ago. I remember sitting at a Carroll Co. meeting and we were discussing a purchase of a Safe House for teaching kids fire safety and 2 weeks later sitting at a Columbiana Co. meeting listening to people argue for approximately 20 to 30 minutes about who we should send to Columbus to represent our county at some meeting and how they would vote. Do you see the difference? I applaude those who have stepped up and want to see this group grow and expand for the future. Let's hope this newer generation can get this accomplished.
By the way, did I mention that they had a fund that would give money to the residents that had a fire in their home. I forget the amount. I was thinking between $100-$200. Maybe you can help me out here Tim. Anyways, the association would cut a check to the department who responded then they would have to personally deliver the money to the victims. I was involved with this once with a fire we had in Franklin Twp. and to see the look on their face when a fire truck pulls back up to the scene and you hand them a check to help with their recovery. Priceless! Plus it gives you a chance to do a follow up, which I think we should do and neglect to do.
Need a minimum of 12, so we have at least 2 working groups, more would be better and yes, the 300 is a 2 day class and the 400 could be finished up in 1 day, depending on the number of students. The more students the longer it takes to work on the different scenarios because of each groups work sessions.
Going on what we have discussed here so far we could be possibly looking at maybe 5-6 for a 300 class and maybe 8-9 for the 400, so far. The course will also be opened to the folks in Mahoning County as well. So who needs the 300, it would be at the minimum of your line officers and for the 400 would be your Chiefs, Ass't Chiefs, or Captains. Anyone else is more than welcome but everyone will have to have had the 100, 200, 700, & 800. The sooner that we can get some more numbers we will be able to lock in some possible dates. Will need to contact the instructor for availability. Will be back in touch!
