Columbiana County Firefighter's Association 50th Anniversary

As posted on the county page on facebook (well not exactly since it wouldn't post it this way!):

Columbiana County Firefighters Association's 50th anniversary is this year on June 15th, 1960 the association was formally organized at the Columbiana County Courthouse. I was thinking we need to do something big this year to celebrate 50 yrs. of the organization. I found some info that they had a dinner on the 20th anniverasy for organization members and past members recognizing depts., past officers, special awards, and a memorial service for deceased members of the association. For the 30th they did a special newspaper with the morning journal during fire prevention week, with a couple pics and an article about the history of the depts that are in the association, Which included things like origin of dept, important dates relating to the dept., how dept is funded, equipment, training, and roster of members. If anyone has a copy of this paper I for one as I am sure many others would love to see this paper! Would like to get any ideas anyone has for celebrating this anniversary of the association (even if you are thinking to yourself that no one might go for it, let's hear it! You never know what might happen if you don't let people know, it might be the idea that people just didn't think about!) Let's make this a year to remember for the association, and not just make it another year for the association!

Rob, I think this is a great Idea. I have a copy of this paper and would be glad to share it with you and I also think that we should look at having a dinner. I for one am out of town during the week. However I would be more than willing to put together a com. to come up with the idea of having a dinner. I think that it is something that we could do cheap, passing the cost off to the people that would attend, invite County commisioners, and people of that sort. We could look into having a speaker for that night as well. I will be making a few phone calls to people in the county about this as well as yourself let me know what you think.

Yes, something special should be done. The newspaper insert would be a real plus, as well as the dinner. It takes a lot of work and time to collect all the departments info. It would be great to see how the departments have progressed over time. This Association should be commended and recognized for its 50 years of service. There are too many of the county associations across the state that have fallen to the wayside for the lack of enthusiasm. I for one would be willing to help out.

Is anyone opposed to me seeing if the Morning Journal would be willing to do another newspaper run like they did in the past, if I were to provide them with department contacts for each department, I would be willing to do that but someone needs to bring it up at the county meeting before i go ahead. I will not be able to attend because of work out of town, but I will do the contact work if need be

Did anyone get ahold of the old clipping? Or do we still need it. I will ask Larry about it. Don't know if they will be able to find it.
