I was a Type 2 but my son ran as a Hotshot for a while before switching to engines. Hotshots is a young mans game. Comments from him are: Get in shape and then get in better shape, keep a good attitude and don't whine, on day 13 of a deployment think positive and don't whine, take care of your gear and your boots, think, be a team player, and don't whine. Hotshots are expected to be tough and they are. Resist the urge to let everyone know you are among the best, they already know that. Keep a good attitude and don't whine.

I think there is a common thread here, safety, attitude, hard work, team, accept only the best from yourself, and don't whine!
Good luck and enjoy it, great life, you will build friends and family, keep safe as you walk into the belly of the dragon.... Mike
