Have any of you noticed that the us flag is on backwards on a lot of shirts and jackets? I was taught the stars close to the heart.

I was taught stars close to the heart also, but my old dept. had a profssional uniform co. do all our uniforms, and they put all the flags on the opposite way. At least our depts. allow flags, some do not!
I have researched this for several uniforms and was told by a non-com officer the history goes back to the battle flags carried durring an attack. As the flag is advanced in a charge the wind would make the staff lead, meaning the stars would always be forward no matter which way you looked at the flag. Today when we wear a flag on our uniform the stars should be forward. So if you wear the flag on your right shoulder it would apear backwords but is actually being worn properly. Hope this helps. Stay Safe.
