In My humble opinion .....No, I am sure money is a huge issue. Also I have found that over the last several years they have seemingly cut out alot of the regional fire schools and trainings. Not to mention the fact that they are very hard to get answers from. I Would sincerely like to see them get an interactive website so Firefighters across the state can get training info. Just my 2 cents worth.
Dear Brothers and Sisters. As an adjunct for AFA, I would like to say some of the l;argest problem comes from when classes are scheduled that the class does not make. In other words we ourselves are our own worst enemys by not going to the classes that are scheduled. This means signing up for these classes in advance, not just showing up as we feel like it. Second if there is a class you want in your area, contact the Academy and request it at your station or town. We have the control of what is being taught across the state. Although it is not in the regional fire school formatt a request to bring in a program is only a phone call away. Third, get involved. Become an adjunct instructor. Take mosule one of the Instructor trac and become a "Certified Training Officer". Take the rest of "Instructor One" apply to become an adjunct instructor then you can teach the classes you have had in your area. With the new requirements of the 25 hours of AFA approved training required each year to maintain our grant eligibility, there are too many departments out there for the staff instructors to do all the teaching, or at least there should be. If we show up to the classes that are being offered I am sure the AFA will only give us more and better training in the future.
