Simple lessons for firefighting from the horse racing world.




When not working I spend a lot of time with horses. You can learn a lot from them.

Perfect is in the eye of the beholder. It's gone as quick as the eye blinks too.

Attitude is everything, but alone, it can't put out fire.

Showboating can make good press and gain followers, but it can't help you when the alarm is struck.

Discipline and training can make winners, but it's the heart that separates first from second, and heart that can make the push down the hall.

You will have a bad fire. No matter how good a training program you have, no matter how disciplined your team is, you will have a bad fire.

Flashy press and a good website can't run a race for you. They also can't put out fires for you.

Don't make excuses. Know when to quit.

Success comes from practice.
