At our weekly work detail last night, I had to help another firefighter figure out how to put in our SCBA's in the jump seats in the new rescue. I hadn't done it myself, but as I stepped out of the truck, I proclaimed "Yep, in 18 years and 6 truck purchases, this is by far my favorite"
It's a new rescue that replaced a worn and torn late 70's utility van.
Our new 2009 scania Rescue pumper. It just replaced our 1995 scania, and is a dream. The picture is of 063 blacktowns but ours is identical. Ba in the seats, lockers are well set out, clear LED strobes all over it. Really is a nice truck to use.
My favorite piece of apparatus is our ladder. It's an open cab behind the driver and front passenger so it's fun to ride in. Everyone can see you as you blow by with the lights and sirens. Of course there's a drawback to an open cab area for us...
One night I went on an automatic firealarm call. It was a driver, an officer, and me - the only one in the open cab portion. We made a tight turn while I was putting on my SCBA and almost fell out from the force. You just need to be careful.
Our Ladder 1 is an E-One 110' straight stick and this by far is my favorite. Single rear wheel base means we can get it in many tight spots. Great truck.
