GILLETTE, Wyo. - A lawsuit filed against the Campbell County Fire Department by 16 plaintiffs who say they were molested by a former Gillette fire chief has been settled.
Gillette attorney Jeremy Michaels says his clients were psychologically scarred and the resolution of the lawsuit on Friday is in everyone's best interest.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The plaintiffs say they were sexually abused by former Campbell County fire chief Gary Scott, who in September pleaded no contest to 14 state charges of sex abuse and is awaiting sentencing.
The 55-year-old Scott is already serving a 24-year federal sentence on 10 felony convictions of taking children across state lines for sexual abuse.
They exist in every walk of life. Firefighters, teachers, priests... When found they should all be removed from the community - for the longest possible sentence.
Where ya been, folks.
I blogged about this dirtbag a couple of weeks ago.
Janet Wilmoth discussed this pervert in her article in FireChief online; Chiefs Behaving Badly.
As was said; they are everywhere, but they shouldn't be in the fire service if our screening and background checks have done their jobs.
Hopefully, Scott will never see the light of day again, but as we have recently seen with the Chelsea King murder by a repeat sex offender, we still treat sex offenders like they just made a bad decision. How's that for giving second chances? Or third or however many they should get. As long as it doesn't happen to someone you know, right?
It's a sick world, for sure.
