(AP) LONDON

Police say that the discovery of a suspected World War II bomb has forced the evacuation of a British elementary school.

Sussex Police say that St. Peter and St. Paul Primary School in southern England was evacuated after building contractors discovered the device near the school's playing fields Thursday. Three nearby nursing homes were also evacuated.

Britain suffered heavy bombing during World War II and unexploded munitions from the conflict are still regularly discovered across the country. The school remained closed Friday.
