EAGLE, Wis. - The fire chief in Eagle was among a half dozen people who lost their homes in the southern Wisconsin village when an apparent tornado touched down.
Chief Justin Heim says he was at the fire station when the storm hit and his family was at home. He tells WTMJ-TV that his family is OK. Village officials say there were only minor injuries associated with storm.
Some 48,000 We Energies customers lost power at the peak of the storm. Company spokesman Rick White said Tuesday morning that 20,000 were still without service as more than 160 crew members work overnight to restore power. White says most of the outages are in Waukesha and Jefferson counties.
The National Weather Service says tornadoes also were spotted in Lafayette and Dane counties. Authorities say some buildings and trees were damaged in those counties.
