I know its hard to say! But Winter is just about upon us NorthEastern folks. Couple more weeks and were gunna be knee deep in snow and MVAs!
This sort of discussion is aimed at the POV drivers out there. Who are more likely to drive their own vehicle to a call (Be it MVA, wires down, ect) and use their vehicles extensively during the winter months.
Im not gunna lie..I love winter. Not because of more calls or anything..but because I like to see what nature can throw at me, and what my vehicle, and myself, can handle.
What Im packing..
My 01 GMC Z71 Sierra Reg Cab short box on 33inch Mud and Snow Terrain Tires. I carry a Hatchet, a full size firemans pick axe, and some assorted flashlights. I run a Able 2 Sho-ME LED light bar and Recon Strobes front and rear.
Im looking for suggestions from others on more things to carry? And what you all carry so maybe I can be more prepared. I've been thinking of putting a chain saw in my tool box, just in case.
well you are better prepared than i am. these items are all good. only thing i can think of is a window punch and a seatbelt cutter. these should be in all vehicles even non emergency personnel. ... I have a STOCK 2001 chevy z71, blue rotating dash light, flashlights, gloves, and a cpr mask. that is all for now.
First aid kit, tow strap, cross-handle tire wrench, flares, extra clothing and blankets, extra cell phone battery, snow brush and ice scraper. Maybe I should get some lock de-icer too.
It's currently in the low 70's here with lows in the 40's. So let's see, how am I prepared for the winter season... Can't say I have or need snow tires, my radial michelins seem to do well and when you drive with the sunroof open, the tires aren't too noisy... Can't say that I carry an axe or hatchet but do have my pocket knife on me just in case... I do have a flashlight and if I'm in my suburban then I have a powerful spot light. What I do carry joking aside that was not noted in your list was some type of EMS kit and some highway flares. Reading yours and other posts makes me SO happy that I don't have to deal with snow and extreme cold weather. I'll take the wildland fires and earthquakes any day! Stay safe!
LOL ... I looked this up and I put it in my wish list. ... I carry the "Res Q Wrench" in my bunker gear pocket from edarley.com. it is a foldable spanner wrench, has a window punch, (not spring loaded) a seat belt cutter, and a gas shut off socket.
