GRANT CITY, Mo. - A wind-whipped blaze tore through the downtown of a small northwest Missouri town, destroying three businesses and one empty building.

No one was injured in the fire Wednesday in Grant City, in Worth County near the Missouri-Iowa border.

The state fire marshal is investigating to determine the cause of the fire, which was reported about noon in the town with about 1,000 residents.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Fire Chief Ben Fletcher says the fire started in one building. Strong winds caused the fire to jump to three adjoining buildings.
