BALTIMORE - Over 100 firefighters battled multiple fires in Baltimore last night, requiring mutual aid from neighboring Maryland counties as well as the District of Columbia.

According to The Baltimore Sun nearly a third of the fire department's staffing was at work fighting the fires. The first started at approximately 5:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of North Calhoun Street. Fire damaged three row houses.

Across from North Calhoun Street, five vacant homes also caught fire. Later, a third fire started in the 1300 block of Carey Street.

Both the North Calhoun Street and Carey Street fires were fought with multiple alarm assignments. According to STATter911, the Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS department sent two engines, one truck, a battalion chief and three chief officers to Baltimore's Steadman Street fire station.

One firefighter was reportedly treated for minor injuries. Baltimore's fire union reported that during the fires, 25 engine companies and 10 ladder companies were at work while three companies sat in firehouses, unmanned due to budget cuts.
