Authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a garage attached to the home of a White House aide early Monday morning.
The Capitol Hill residence has been identified as the home of Daniel A. Turton, the White House deputy director of legislative affairs for the House.
The victim was identified as Ashley Turton, a lobbyist for utility giant Progress Energy, former Hill staffer, and the wife of Daniel Turton, according to Politico. Her body was discovered inside a car after responders extinguished an early morning blaze inside the garage.
A telephone message left at the home number listed for Daniel Turton, whose marriage was previously featured in a Politico report, was not immediately returned.
D.C. Fire/EMS spokesman Pete Piringer says crews were called to the the 800 block of A Street SE at around 5 a.m. and discovered a car engulfed in flames. The vehicle was located in a garage behind the house.
Piringer says the car might have crashed into the home's garage at a low speed. It was pulled out of the garage shortly after 10 a.m., as a crowd of onlookers gathered to watch.
