Finally, we got our list together. We had a great year in 2008 for the most part. There were some sad moments, such as the death of one of our long time board members/vice chairman and that of one of our former firefighters, but there were happy moments as well! Here goes!
We are a rural department with approximately 17 active members plus new recruits who are still in training! In 2008, we:
*Responded to 64 runs
*Added new board members: R. McArthur, L. Parman
*Voted K. Lawson in as Vice Chairman, replacing D. Rush after his untimely death
**AWARDED AN AFG 2008 GRANT WRITTEN BY CHRIS TURNER FOR A NEW 3500 GALLON PUMPER TANKER TO BE BUILT BY BLUEGRASS FIRE APPARATUS/SCHEDULED DELIVERY APRIL 2009
*Remodeled training room, office and restroom in our station due to a water leak
*Added a Pepsi machine to the building which earns the department 25 cents per pop sold
*Had the motor of truck 5 (5600 gallon tanker) completely overhauled after it blew up in route to a fire
*Performed fire safety demonstrations for lower level classes at the local elementary school
*Sponsored "Open House" for the community with games food and prizes for the community
*Performed hydrant testing on ALL hydrants in our district
*C. Turner, D.Wyatt, R. Wyatt, and S. Powell (four of our firefighters) joined the county honor guard as representatives from our department
*5 firefighters became IFSAC certified after passing written andskills tests
*Entire Department became NIMS certified after completing a series of written tests
*Sponsored another year of our "Campground Kids' Christmas." This year we sponsored 5 families for a total of 13 kids. We provided food, clothes and toys for these less fortunate families in our district.
*Firefighters received coats or fleeces for Christmas, depending on service
*Gained 5 new recruits this year.
Also much new equipment was purchased and our morale has risen greatly here at Campground Volunteer Fire Department!
