You're kidding, right?
Joe I do not think he is kidding.

I was think why he would ask the question but then I noticed the middle name.
fyre iz gud. ;) (it's painful to type like that intentionally)
Sean I think you hit the nail on the head.

But I am still leaning to the clinton thing.
I like the way that fathers/mothers can't think of a different name for their kids.
Firefighting to me is a job that only special people can do .. You have to be willing to give up things Helping people ... I also think a small rush is involve when the whistle goes off... I have been dressed up for going out and had the whistle blow and go in a dress slide the bunker pants on and never think twice on doing it......I could not imagine not being one..As I get older I don't move as quick as the young kids and not always in the big hurry to put on a scot pack, but ready to do wha t ever it takes.... Love it would not give it up in a moments notice to go and try to save life and property.Putting other people in front of you.... I have alway wanted to be a fireman since I was a kid when my dad use to take us to fires in the night.. So Kudos to my Dad
I do it because it's a love of mine and I can't get enough training of knowledge of fire, I was born and raised around it.
OK I'll bite...

Firefighting (the act of) or Firefighters (the people who are) respond to all types of emergencies that NO ONE else will.
in response to the first five guys who responded i was given that name because that was my grandfather and my dads name and thats why my mother and father gave me that name and im thankful for it. it has alot of meaning to me. thank you to the last three people who responded corectly and in response to why i asked this question i was just wondering what other guys in our field thought about our line of work
Well to start with you have to understand what a firefighter is. To quote from a very famous English fire chief "A Fireman to be successful, must enter buildings; He must get in below, above, on every side, from opposite houses, over brick walls, over side walls, through panels of doors, through windows, through loopholes cut by himself in the gates, the walls, the roof; he must know how to reach the attic from the basement by ladders placed on half burned stairs, and the basement from the attic by rope made fast on a chimney;
His whole success depends on his getting in and remaining there, and he must always carry his appliances with him, as without them he is of no use
".

Composed by Sir Eyre Massey Shaw (1830–1908) who was the Superintendent of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (now renamed the London Fire Brigade), and its predecessor, the London Fire Engine Establishment, from 1861 to 1891. He introduced modern firefighting methods to the Brigade, and increased the number of stations.
From the little that I've read, Sir Eyre was a real leader, and a man that got things done!
To me firefighting is a profesion that is filled with a special breed of person. It does not matter if they are volunteer or carreer they both share common roots and goals. Fire fighting is done by men and women alike who strive to complete their job for the better good of all mankind. firefighting encompasses more than just fighting fire, it also calles on you to become a valuble community servant through public awareness programs and things of that nature. Firefighting is not just firefighting it is so much more than that. It is rescue (of all kinds), Haz-mat, medical,to name a few. The people that do it have honed their skilles to the highest degree at all levels for whatever situation they are put in. You can tell who they are, they are the ones getting it done not the ones that are along for the ride just to say "I'm a firefighter".
firefighting is done by most because they have a burning desire for the trade and of course you can not deny the adrenaline rush when you are called apon to do your job. Even with all the bad publicity of the few that give us all a bad name those of us who respect the trade and what we stand for find the strength to keep going and try to turn those negative attitudes towards firefighters in general into positive ones.
The future firefighters have become important to me. The probies,Juniors, cadets, what ever title you want to give them need to have the tools and training to succeed. Passing the knowledge that you have aquired down the ladder so to speak is priceless. Whithout any help from the older genrations they will fall short of the standards that would allow them to consider themselves proffesionals.
