A firefighter is no more than a person who holds a compassion for their job, a love of their department and a brotherhood with over a million other men and women alike. They are people you can count on, at any time of the day. They are people who take pride in what they do.. only because thast all they know, thats what they were made to know. Theyre not heros... but they are the elctritions, the carpenters, the pipefitters and the butchers... so next time you see a fireman thank them for what they do... whether they are paid or volunteer they didnt have to take that job.... they wanted it.
A firefighter is no more than the man working on your roof, or the brother who died in the line of duty just doing what he or she loved.
a firefighter is someone who helps protect life and property in both an emergency and through public awareness. I, personally, don't do it for a "thank you", nor do I expect one or wish for one. I do what I do because I love doing it. If people go around hoping or expecting "thank you's", then it seems like they may be in this for pride and glory, which is a bad idea. Pride can be a good thing or a bad thing. Depends on the person.
I understand where you wanted to go with this, but, I have issues with people looking for "thankyou's". When you are not expecting one, and someone does thank you, it's appreciated much more, I think.
You are right, firefighters are all that you mentioned, we have to be.
Sorry if it seems I'm jumping on you, I really don;t want to seem like I'm ragging on you. This is just my point of view.

No i totally understand where you are coming from. There are "firefighters"who do it to get "thank you"" from people. Those people might also do it for their community.
Derek, thank you for your post.
FIREFIGHTERS
They are a special breed one and all
Willing to give it their all on every call
Weather to fight the beast or to save a life
Morning, noon, or night
They never give up the fight
When that fight requires their life
We must never forget their children or their wife
For brothers and sister all are we
Whenever one falls we should all bend a knee
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a U.S. organization (albeit with some international members) charged with creating and maintaining minimum standards and requirements for fire prevention and suppression activities, training, and equipment, as well as other life-safety codes and standards. This includes everything from building codes to the personal protective equipment utilized by firefighters while extinguishing a blaze.
Maybe the rendering of self-serving, homeric platitudes should be shelved in favor of a strong endorsement of professionalism. It might help to weed out those that serve simply for the satisfaction of being a hero and when bored, opt to 'assist' by setting fires.
i agree. i don't expect a thank you. but i know a couple people who expect pride and glory and their name in the paper. and i have a HUGE issue with that person too. and he has an issue with me for that. And i do agree with Davin also.
