Hey there,
My post does alot of things. Depending on weather and things, but we just did boats...that would have to depend on where you're located and your departments. But it was alot of fun. We do alot fo SCBA reveiw and exercises..We also do alot of smoke mazes...We just had an engine come to a meeting and we did hose advancement, that was great! CPAT practice..idk we do alot!
Hope I helpd a little
In my department one of the main things the juniours do to help out at our scenes is to supply any required tools to the firefighters as they are required. It is a valuable and highly appreciated task . This requires a good knowledge of the location of different tools on the aparatus and I get the juniours to drill on this fairly often.
In order to put some fun in this otherwise boring exercise I combine the drill with an SCBA practice and black out the facepieces on the B A. Next I assign the participant a particular tool to find and return to me. To add a sense of compitition we time each evolution and see those who know where the tools are best. Assign a maximum time so you don't get tied up on one exercise too long
You'll find guys wiil get more confident using the SCBA in zero vivibilty and will soon know the locations of equipment on the apparatus while enjoying the thrill of a competition.
Let me know what you think of this drill and how it works out for you. If you like it let me know and I may have more for you.
For fun we have our kids put on full gear - coat, gloves, pants, helmets and SCBA. Then we have them play basketball. The idea is to try to control your breathing. If you run out of air, your team plays short-handed until their tank is replaced. They love it...and it's fun to watch! lol
