West Virginia Department Turns Down PETA's Help To Rebuild Firehouse

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. - The Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department will rebuild its station without the help of a Virginia animal rights group.

The fire department responded with a blunt "no thanks" after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals offer an unspecified donation. It came with a hitch: the department would have to place an ad featuring a woman in a bikini on firefighters' helmets.

A member of the department told The Charleston Gazette a fire helmet is not the proper place for billboards.

The department's insurance covered approximately half of the $2 million in damage caused by the October fire.

I agree, we are professionals even as volunteers. Our helmets are not for solicitation . we have each other. I am proud to say I know Tommy Miller , and I respect him and his members.
