I'm looking for better ways to connect with our community online. We have a website (www.gastonfire.org), Twitter feed (twitter.com/gastonfire), YouTube Channel (youtube.com/gastonfiredistrict), we're on Facebook and MySpace, and we're adding Nixle soon.

The videos are the most popular feature, and I think we do pretty well on Twitter considering our small size (6,500 residents). I would like to add more interactivity to our sites, but like all departments there are legitimate concerns about pressing forward.

I'm open to any and all comments, criticisms, etc. about our current efforts and especially to new ideas that are working for you. We're a nearly all volunteer department, including me, so we face constraints, but we're willing to try almost anything to stay in touch with our community.

Please share some best practices.
