I bet with this sense of humor you guys are real jewels to work with
I have never met Jack or FETC but I would much rather work alongside them than anyone wearing or supporting this shirt. I am sure these guys do have a sense of humor, it is just more tasteful and self-respecting than yours.
this job is supposed to be enjoyable, and fun.
You might want to clarify. Sure, hanging out at the station and talking with the rest of the guys and gals might be fun but think of the opposite of that. Responding Code to a working dwelling fire is fun? Just getting there raises the hair on my neck, not knowing if a vehicle will pull over or another will come off of a side street resulting in a collision. On scene, a families house is gutted and all of their possesioins lost, to you this is enjoyable?

If you are referring to career firefighters not having chicks in the firehouse...I am with you. But for volunteers, I am sorry, I have to respectfully disagree with that. Vollie FFs have the right in most fire co.s to recreate with whomever they like in the firehouse lounge. Sounds like somebody's bitter.

Let me work up, I'd rather be a jackass than a Dick. Just my own personal feeling on that.
If you think that drinking beer and responding to a call is acceptable in your little part of the world then I am very grateful that I am no where near you. See the problem is when vollies start saying they're the same as paid guys, except paid guys don't drink alcohol and do the job. Why it is that vollies think that they CAN is beyond me.
Not sure where you were going with the animals and hunting and slaughter houses, had you just come in from working out in the yard?
Dick (may I call you Dick?), clearly you do not read thoroughly, I'm not telling anyone what to do, like YOU, I expressed MY opinion which according to you is apparently not allowed, for some silly reason or another. And exactly how again do cultural practices in the Dominican Republic relate to inappropriate tee shirts? I missed that one two. You kind of need to stop "working out in your yard" and try to stay with water, it's better for you anyway.
What I find most amusing is that those people that are so wound up about the right for people to wear any damn thing they want feel the need to attack those that have calmly said that they (their own personal opinion) think that those kind of shirts are inappropriate. Suddenly it turns into freedom of speech, freedom of expression, Dicks, Jackasses, kids know more than that already (wonder why THAT is) and the DEFENDERS OF TEE SHIRTS AND THOSE THAT WEAR THEM become amusingly uber-serious and pedantic. As I've pointed out, it is amusing (at least to me).

Yea the job is supposed to be fun....like Ray Mccormack said "My name is Ray and I like to go to fires" well I agree with him I like to go to fires, I like to do the job I am trained to do. Sure its horrible that someones stuff burns or they may lose their life, but its going to happen and I want to be the guy who is there doing the job when it happens. If you dont wanna do the job then perhaps Citizen Emergency Response Team, RedCross, or Fire Corps are more cut out for you. All the satisfaction of volunteering and none of the destruction, and death to get the hairs on your neck standing.
BTW I have read every post on this thread and I have seen very little relevance. You dont like the shirt fine, dont wear it. I dont like this or any of the other FD promotion shirts out there (Black Helmet, Tools of the trade, any other ridiculous shirts). However I am not gonna get up in arms about a shirt. If my sons were to see it and ask about it I would explain to them that its a joke shirt, and they they shouldnt talk like that. Plain and simple!!!!

I certainly don't consider myself any more up in arms than you consider yourself to be. All a matter of perception I suppose.
And clearly you take this topic and your response(s) as "seriously" as anyone else. Other wise you'd let it go. And that you keep responding because you think I'm ridiculous is....well, ridiculous.
So then by default, anyone who disagrees with your pearls of wisdom is....ridiculous. Okay I see how that works now.

It's the first time I believe you said that if someone wants to wear the shirt go ahead without a sarcastic and rude remark following it Jack.that's just what I've been trying to say.You get me all in a huff because you say noone should be wearing it and like robert said if a kid does see it you tell him don't worry about it it's an adult thing.You get me bent out of shape because if you guys seriously think that the world is going to think of the fire service disrespectivly because of a shirt then you've lost your mind.The 2 percent that would bitch are'nt going to override the 98% that don't.
If you would stop argueing long enuf to say yes I see your point also because I see yours to an extent but you can't tell every person that you don't want to see the shirt around my kids or tell the guy at the t-shirt shop that you don't think he should sell them anymore I have a pretty good feeling as to what your going to be told.
If you don't want the shirts worn than start a petition against them but until it's illegal to sell or wear it's just something you are going to have to deal with Jack.What you should have said right off the bat is "I don't like them but to each thier own".
If you can't figure out why I put the examples in their I'm not going to try and explain it to you cause I thought it was pretty clear statement as to some agree and others don't

Oh ya and as for the couple of beers before a call.I know you wouldn't dare drink because you are at a station on shift but do you drink while not off duty?And what if it were an all-call where you needed to go in for a big one while off shift and you had a beer you tellin me your not going because you drank a beer.I'll call you a liar because you know as well as I do that 1 or 2 beers while your sweatin your ass off cuttin grass or workin in the yard on a hot day is not going to affect your ability to do the job.You get to bad mouth the Volunteers for drinking but we are not at the station all the time and I do not go if I'm over my limit but one or two beers isn't affecting anyone here who does drink beer.

How are you any different? We are disagreeing with you and we are automatically wrong.
The only thing I take serious is how much space this is taking on this website when alot of other more productive discussions could be taking place. But there is one thing I can do about it and I am going to stop following this thread.
Have fun and stay safe.....and dont take life so seriously or youll never get out alive.

I think it would be fair to describe the shirt as sophomoric, at best. But so were the Three Stooges. At worst, it's highly offensive. But so was Lenny Bruce - to some. Having said that, I can't really think of any public venue where the shirt would be anything but inappropriate. (I don't know, maybe at a rasslin' match?)
And for what it's worth, if I were a volly I wouldn't hesitate to answer an alarm after having had a couple of beers. (Assuming there were no hard and fast rules against that.) Do all volly departments have a "zero tolerance" policy with respect to alcohol?

Yes that is what I am telling you.... You can call me a liar all you want but here is a fact....Alcohol is metabolized extremely quickly by the body. Unlike foods, which require time for digestion, alcohol needs no digestion and is quickly absorbed. Alcohol gets ?VIP? treatment in the body ? absorbing and metabolizing before most other nutrients. About 20 percent is absorbed directly across the walls of an empty stomach and can reach the brain within one minute.
Once alcohol reaches the stomach, it begins to break down with the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme. This process reduces the amount of alcohol entering the blood by approximately 20%. (Women produce less of this enzyme, which may help to partially explain why women become more intoxicated on less alcohol than men.). In addition, about 10% of the alcohol is expelled in the breath and urine.
Here is a little test you can take, remember the legal limit is .08 weather you feel it or not at .02 you can be considered to be impaired which can be reached by a 200 LB. man drinking 1 12 oz. beer over 3 hours. http://www.ou.edu/oupd/bac.htm
