Washington Firefighter Injured in Three Alarm Apartment Fire

HAZEL DELL, Wash. — A three-alarm fire raced through a two-story building at a Clark County apartment complex on Thursday, displacing more than 50 residents of 24 units.

By Thursday night, firefighters had managed to control the blaze in a building at the Rolling Creek Apartments in Hazel Dell.

The Columbian newspaper says one firefighter was treated at a hospital for back strain and one person was taken to a hospital with chest pains.

Clark County Fire District 6 spokeswoman Dawn Johnson says the fire started in a bedroom of a downstairs apartment. The blaze spread through a common attic connecting the Building F units. The building is one of six in the complex.

Fire officials say the blaze appears accidental but the cause is under investigation.

By evening, Johnson said Red Cross volunteers had registered 56 people who needed emergency help.
