WASHINGTON - A building fire in Northeast DC is snarling traffic on Minnesota Avenue Thursday morning.

Pete Piringer, spokesperson for DC Fire and EMS, says firefighters responded to a blaze in a two story commercial building under renovation in the 4100 block of Minnesota Avenue around 5:30 a.m.

Crews arriving on scene found heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the building and began to aggressively attack the blaze. Piringer says firefighters called for a 2nd alarm and assistance from the water supply task force approximately 10 minutes into the operation.

Piringer says most of the flames have been extinguished and firefighters are hitting hot spots.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
