Washington, D.C. Firefighter Injured in Stairway Collapse

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) - There was a significant fire at a row house shortly after 9:30 Monday morning. The fire started in a car that was in the garage of the house, located at 500 Peabody Street N.W.


According to DC Fire and EMS, the damage to the home is significant.

The fire burnt the staircase leading to the basement. The staircase collapsed when a firefighter tried to go to the basement to contain the fire. That firefighter was not seriously hurt.

It took firefighters 10-15 minutes to contain the fire.

The family will be displaced because of the damage to the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
