We received our first call of the year and it was for a car fire.  The duty officer arrived first and recalled all units clearing it as a warming fire that has been extinguished.  What is a warming fire when it comes to a vehicle?  (Besides something that you light to get warm like the Flinstones)

Thanks Guys

In each case, t could be different, can you ask the duty officer, what his findings were.
I plan to. We at teh station were curious if anyone knew what this meant.
If I took a wild guess, it was a bum with a fire in an abandoned car.
Sounds right to me
What is a warming fire when it comes to a vehicle?

1. If I am understanding your correctly Patti, you are describing a small wood bonfire, called a warming fire, that was built up against a vehicle. Probably to provide protection from the wind and to compartmentalize the heat given off by the fire. From a distance, one would see what looked like a car on fire, but on closer inspection, it turns out to be a warming fire. First arriving firefighter figures out pretty quick that it was not an incident, and not a vehicle fire, canceling everyone... no big deal.

2. So... When a warming fire comes to a vehicle, which leads one to believe that a fire creeped along the ground, reaching a vehicle, and threatened the vehicle by possibly igniting the vehicle... But again, I don't think this is what you meant to say... it's just confusing the way you asked the question.

So there are two possible answers to your question, if it was a question...

CBz
It is a question. I have sent an email to the Duty Officer to find out what was meant by that. I just did not know if this
is common verbage. Our DO comes from a different station so there was no way of asking him what he meant.

We have no idea if it was a small wood bonfire up against a vehicle, in a vehicle, or ???? I told the guys that I would
ask anyone if they had ever heard of something like this.
then... my explanation (#1) probably is what happened, but then again you won't know until you pick up a phone and make contact with your DO that made the call. never hurts to ask the question, but hopefully, my explanation enabled you to have a better grasp of the verbiage used.
Hey uh Mike....
I've got some bad news for you sunshine, it was my definition, as to what they found on arrival, the fire was inside the vehicle to keep them warm, probably a three bedroom Chevy Coupe.... lol
Thank you. I am waiting for the DO to get back to me.
On this stretch of highway would not be surprised.
oh fine Larry, now I get the sitrep that the fire was contained inside the vehicle... but it does follow along with my compartmentalization theory. :D
The department of Forestry lit a fire to keep warm and from the highway it looked like it was in a
car.
