ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Officials estimate that a four-alarm blaze at a three-story apartment building in Alexandria caused about $3 million in damage.

Firefighters found fire and smoke coming from three floors of the building when they arrived in the 6000 block of Edsall Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Fire Marshal Robert Rodriguez says firefighters initially attacked the blaze from inside the building but quickly had to move outside. About 130 firefighters battled the blaze for nearly three hours before it was brought under control.

Rodriguez says residents of the 14 apartments escaped uninjured, but have been displaced by the blaze. One firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital with a minor injury.

The cause remains under investigation.
