RUTLAND, Vt. - A Vermont woman is being credited with saving the life of an 87-year-old Rutland man after a fire started on the stove in his home.

Trista Pelland was delivering Meals on Wheels Thursday when she smelled smoke outside the Jefferson Street home.

When she went in, the house was filled with smoke. She crawled on her knees until she found the man.

She shut off the stove and called 911.

Rutland Deputy Fire Chief Ernest Cioffi tells WCAX-TV the man probably would have died without Pelland's help.

The name of the elderly man was not released. He was treated at the Rutland Regional Medical Center and released. He's back home and in good health.
