WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - A 5-year-old girl is dead after a house fire in a suburb southwest of Salt Lake City.

Firefighters found the girl's body after being called to the home around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

West Valley City Fire Chief John Evans says five other members of the family were able to escape.

Evans says firefighters were able to knock down the fire fairly quickly and found the girl's body when searching the rest of the home.

The girl's name was not immediately released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
