MIDVALE, Utah - Fire officials and witnesses say a blaze that destroyed 12 units of a Utah apartment complex forced 20 people out of their homes.

No injuries were reported in the 1:30 a.m. Wednesday fire at the Royal Ridge apartment complex near 1000 East and 7400 South in Midvale.

A resident tells KSL-TV he awoke to intense flames, and went door-to-door alerting other residents while the fire continued to spread.

Firefighters reported flames were shooting from the roof when they arrived.

Damage is estimated at $1 million.

The American Red Cross is helping displaced families.
