U.S. Fire Administration
The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official line of duty deaths of Fire Chief Posey Dillon, 59, and Firefighter William Daniel "Danny" Altice, 67, of the Rocky Mount Fire Department No.1 on July 26, 2010.
While responding to a residential structure fire, Fire Chief Dillon and Firefighter Altice were both killed when their fire department apparatus was struck by an SUV at an intersection. The fire truck rolled several times and came to a final resting position on top of another car. The cab of the apparatus was heavily damaged; neither occupant was reported to be wearing seat belts. One of the civilian motor vehicle operators suffered non life-threatening injuries and the other was uninjured in the incident.
Investigation into the accident continues by local and State authorities.
