The U.S. Fire Administration announces the official line of duty death of Firefighter Conrad Mansfield, 45, of the Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department (OH), on June 12, 2009.
Firefighter Mansfield collapsed while participating in pump training. Mansfield was transported to the local hospital and then airlifted to a hospital in Toledo where he was placed on life support. Firefighter Mansfield succumbed to his injury on June 12th. Preliminary results indicate the nature of the fatal injury was a stroke, but a final determination is pending further investigation.
To date, 47 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2009; 46 from incidents that occurred in 2009 and one from a previous year incident.
