We are needing an aerial and have found some used ones. What should I be looking for within these units?

Nice looking tower, Don. How much did you end up in it after refurb?
Morning Chief, Ill send you a email about all that stuff
Chief, check the lower rails(where the slide together)frame, outriggers, hyd leaks. Best bet is when you find one you really like have it checked by a professional testing firm unless you can talk the seller into doing that for you. It's money well spent.
My advice,Check everything, make sure its attached and placed properly,Check the boom and anything attached,A local company had a problem where the deputy chief was under the ladder while it was working,The ladder malfunctioned and killed the chief...his wasnt so long ago,so make sure you triple check your equipment, and make sure you know the reasons why they got rid of it.
That was a extendable waterway issue. On a LATE MODEL aerial. One of the pinnable type that allows you waterpipe or rescue mode.Still under investigation last I knew.

i know for a fact that snokels are junk. the booms leak bad and the training on a snokle is too long. i was on a fire department that had a snokel that was 1976 snokle from cherry hills new york. the snokel moves too slow. and it a challnage too move the boomand get it where it needs to be. a platform or a rear mount straight stick is the best way to go. much easlier to move and vvery to train on. the fire deaprtment i'm on now has a double alxe rear mount 95 ft straight stick. it works good. we don't have a lot of tall building but we have a lot of house that sit back off the road. this truck is a six man cab, with a 500 gallon tank. 1000 foot of 5 inch in back 3 cross lays, 1 1/2 , 1/3/4 ,21/2 cross lays. and can flow water at the tip and at least 1500 gallons a min
